We owe it to future generations to hand over a climate-neutral, fossil-free and circular Netherlands,\" Climate and Energy Minister Jetten said in his letter to the Lower House.<\/strong><\/p><p>The Netherlands is a prosperous country that can and wants to be among the leaders in Europe in the transition to a green economy. This also brings many social benefits: greater biodiversity, cleaner air and green jobs. That is why it is important to act now.<\/p><h3><strong>Netherlands goes green<\/strong><\/h3><p>This approach can succeed if households, communities, (small and medium-sized) businesses and civil society organisations, cooperatives, villages and cities are empowered to make the sustainable transition. The Netherlands is making its contribution to European targets and is setting itself the national goal of achieving at least 55% emission reduction in 2030 compared to 1990. In line with the Coalition Agreement, the government is targeting an emission reduction of 60% when elaborating policy measures. By doing so, the government wants to ensure that the new target for 2030 in the Climate Act of -55% is at least met. By 2050 at the latest, the Netherlands must be climate neutral. The Coalition Agreement includes measures that contribute to achieving the climate targets.<\/p><p>In May, under the direction of the Minister for Climate and Energy, the cabinet will present the first elaboration of the Climate and Energy policy programme. This will elaborate on the elaboration of measures from the Coalition Agreement. The starting point here is that the Climate and Energy policy programme builds on the Climate Agreement and the Coalition Agreement.
