Utrecht, July 2025 – In collaboration with Huawei and Simpl Energy, ProfiNRG has implemented the first Huawei on-off-grid battery energy system in the Netherlands at ESPEQ Bouwopleidingen in Heerhugowaard. This innovative project combines advanced battery technology with intelligent energy management, enabling full autonomous operation — in island mode — even during grid outages.

Customized solution for a complex energy environment

The installation consists of a Huawei LUNA2000 battery system with a storage capacity of 200 kW / 387 kWh. Smart control is provided by Simpl.energy’s Energy Management System (EMS), which optimizes grid connection usage, prevents peak loads, and keeps local consumption balanced at minimal cost — even in off-grid mode. The battery system is integrated with ESPEQ’s extensive electrical infrastructure, including a solar power installation, EV charging stations, heat pumps, and a fully equipped workshop. This combination required a carefully designed, fully customized solution.

Continuity during grid outages

In early 2025, ESPEQ made it clear they wanted to remain operational in the event of a power outage. ProfiNRG, Simpl Energy, and Huawei translated this requirement into a technically sound and reliable design that allows for seamless switching between grid-connected and fully autonomous operation.

The greatest challenge in this hybrid setup was real-time balancing of the local grid, managing the connection and disconnection from the public grid, and coordinating all existing energy sources. Thanks to meticulous engineering and close collaboration, this was successfully achieved. Even the most power-intensive sawing machines ran smoothly during the test phase — powered solely by solar panels and batteries, without any support from the public grid.
