Flex-E grant: the opportunity to use energy smarter

flex-e subsidy

Flex-E subsidy is opportunity to use energy smarter. Grid congestion remains a major challenge and will not disappear anytime soon. To tackle this problem, it is essential to look beyond current constraints and commit to smart, flexible solutions. By better matching energy consumption to available supply and applying innovative technologies, we can move towards a more efficient and resilient energy system.

What is the Flex-E subsidy?

The Flex-E grant encourages companies to implement innovative energy solutions, such as battery storage, smart charging, heat control and smart energy management systems. This helps to reduce peak loads, stabilise the power grid and reduce energy costs.

The Flex-e grant consists of three components:

  1. Flexibility scan: 50% grant (up to a maximum of €10,000) for an analysis of current and future energy consumption by an external expert.

  2. Feasibility study: 50% grant (from €10,000 to a maximum of €125,000) for an in-depth investigation into the possibilities of applying flexibility within the organisation.

  3. Realisation of measures: 35% grant (from €25,000 to a maximum of €300,000) on the purchase and installation of solutions that make energy consumption flexible.

Who is the Flex-E grant aimed at?

To qualify for the Flex-e grant, companies must meet the following criteria:

  • Connected power: The scheme is aimed at companies with a connection capacity of more than 100 kW.

  • Location: The company must be located in a postcode area where the grid operator has declared off-take congestion.

Check if your location falls within a congestion area to see if you qualify!

How much budget is available?

There is €13.5 million grant available from 1 April 2025 to 15 October 2026. The exact terms may still change, so being prepared pays off.

Application procedure

Companies can apply for the Flex-e subsidy through the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO). This requires eHerkenning level 3 with authorisation RVO services at level eH3. It is important to apply for this recognition tool in time, as it may take several days before it is issued.
